Overview
Announcements are notices. The feed is school life: photos from the sports day, the science fair, a class garden, with a few words. Each post goes to the families it's for, who are told in the app, and can react and comment where the school allows it. The school decides what stays up.
Writing a post
- Words, up to 3,000 characters.
- Photos, up to six. They are made smaller on your device before they are sent (to about 2,000 pixels), so a phone's photos upload quickly over a school's connection. iPhone photos chosen on the iPhone arrive as JPEG; a HEIC file copied to a computer can't be opened by most browsers.
- A video link from YouTube, Vimeo or Google Drive, which plays in the post. Videos aren't uploaded: put them on YouTube as unlisted, or share them from Drive, and paste the link.
- Who it's for: with several schools, all of them or one; then Everyone, Some classes or Some sections (this year's, from Classes & sections).
- Tag children in the photos, from among those the post goes to. Their families are told their child is in it.
- Comments off for a post that needs no replies, and Pin to the top to keep it first for families.
Press Post. Every parent and student with an account whose child it reaches is told in the app.
Children kept out of photos
Some families don't want their child's photo shared. Tick Keep out of photos on the child's register record, or the parent ticks it themselves on their dashboard. Then:
- the child can't be tagged in any post;
- whoever adds photos to a post that reaches the child sees a reminder naming them and their class: make sure they aren't in these pictures.
Class teachers
A teacher who is the class teacher of a section this year (set on Classes & sections), and whose staff record is linked to their own login, sees a box to post on My work. Their posts go only to their own class or classes, under their name ("Tina Joseph (Class 5 F)"). They get the same reminder about children kept out of photos, but can't tag children. The office can hide or take down a teacher's post like any other. A teacher's post the AI questions waits for the school's admins before families see it. Every staff member with a login reads their school's whole feed on My work.
What families see and do
A student sees the feed on their Campus page; a parent on the child's Campus tab (see the parent dashboard). They see posts for the child's school, class and section, newest first, with pinned posts on top. They can:
- open photos full screen and step through them with the arrows;
- react with 👍, ❤️ or 👏 (one each, changeable);
- comment, when the school allows it (see Who may comment), and take back their own comments; children up to Class 7 pick a kind phrase from a list;
- (a student) post their own work to their class, when the school allows it (see Safe posting);
- report a post or someone else's comment, saying what's wrong;
- (a parent) keep their child out of photos at each school.
Managing posts and comments
Under each post on the office's page: Pin or Unpin; Hide it from families (and Show it again); switch comments off or on; Read comments, where each one can be hidden or shown; and Take down, which hides it from everyone and keeps it on record. On a post taken down, Erase photos removes its photos for good, for a family who asks. Each post shows its reactions, its comments, who is tagged, and whether it waits for someone, is shown to the whole school or is in the Showcase. Posts and comments that wait for a person are on the Waiting tab.
Reports
Reported posts and comments are listed on the Reported tab, with how many people reported each and why: unkind or abusive, shows a child who shouldn't be shown, sexual or shows a child undressed, wrong information, spam, or something else. Three different people reporting the same thing hides it straight away until you decide. A single report that it's sexual or shows a child undressed hides it at once, marks it urgent, and tells tuition.in too. Keep it shows it again; Hide it keeps it hidden.
Who may comment
On the Settings tab: whether parents can comment (on to start with) and whether students can (off to start with). The school and class teachers can always comment, except on posts with comments off. The same tab switches on students' own posts, the AI check and the Showcase; see Safe posting.
Privacy
- Photos are stored privately. They are never public links: each is shown only to someone signed in whom the post reaches, and to the school.
- A hidden post, and its photos, can be seen only by the school.
- Nothing is deleted: a post taken down, or a comment taken back, stays on record where only the school sees it. Photos are erased only when a family asks.
- Videos stay where they are hosted. YouTube videos play in its privacy-enhanced mode.
- Comments show the commenter's name and whether they are a parent, student, teacher or the school.
Questions
Can a parent post? No. Parents react and comment; the school and class teachers post, and students post their own work when the school allows it.
A post went to the wrong class. Take it down and post again; who a post is for can't be changed afterwards.
Does it reach families without the app? No. The feed is in the app; for messages that must reach everyone, use Announcements or WhatsApp & SMS.
