Overview
Open Announcements in the sidebar. Post a notice; everyone in the audience gets a notification at once and sees it on their own announcements page.
Posting a notice
- Write a title and the body.
- Choose the audience and the type.
- Pin it if it should stay at the top. Set a hide-after date if it stops mattering.
- Press Post.
Links you type become clickable. Everything else shows exactly as written — pasted markup appears as text rather than being rendered, so a notice cannot be used to smuggle anything into a student's page.
Choosing the audience
- One batch — everyone actively enrolled in that batch.
- All my students — everyone actively enrolled in any batch of any of your courses, counted once even if they are in three of your batches.
A co-teacher assigned to a batch can post to that batch only. The batch owner can pin or delete anything posted to their batch, including a co-teacher's notice.
Types, pinning and expiry
The type — general, schedule, exam, holiday or urgent — colours the notice and lets students filter. Pinned notices sort above everything else.
A hide-after date removes the notice at the end of that day, Indian time. Useful for "no class this Saturday", which is noise by Sunday.
Who has read it
Each notice shows Read by X of Y, live. Y is the current audience, so it moves as students join and leave. Opening the notice marks it read for that student; there is nothing for them to press.
Editing and deleting
Editing a notice never re-notifies anyone. Fixing a typo at nine at night should not wake up a hundred phones.
Deleting takes two steps, because a notice with a read count is usually deleted by accident rather than on purpose.
The daily limit
Ten notices per author per day. The count includes notices you have deleted, so deleting and reposting does not get you more notifications — students would experience that as spam regardless of what your notice board looks like afterwards.
