Attendance

A register for classes that happen in a room, not just ones that happen in a browser.

Who this is for
Any tutor or institute that runs classes in person. If every one of your classes is online, attendance is already recorded automatically from join time and you may never need this screen — but you can still override it.

Overview

Before this existed, the only attendance the platform had was the join time of an online room. For a coaching centre teaching in a physical classroom that meant every student sat at 0% — nobody could claim a certificate, and the at-risk alerts flagged the entire batch.

You now mark each session yourself. A mark you enter always beats an automatic join record, so correcting the system is simply a matter of marking the session.

Marking a session

  1. Open Attendance in the dashboard sidebar.
  2. Pick the batch. You will see its sessions, most recent first, with a warning against any that have not been recorded.
  3. Open a session. Everybody starts unmarked — nobody is presumed present or absent.
  4. Press Mark the rest present, then flip the handful of exceptions. In a class of forty this is four taps rather than forty.
  5. Tap a student's status again to clear it back to unmarked.

Co-teachers assigned to the batch can mark it too. Marks save as you make them; there is no separate submit step to forget.

What each status means

  • Present — attended.
  • Late — attended. Counted as attendance, recorded separately so you can see a pattern.
  • Absent — did not attend, and it counts against them.
  • Excused — did not attend, and it does not count against them. The session leaves their denominator entirely, so an excused illness cannot drag a percentage below a certificate threshold.

You can add a private note to any mark. Notes are for you and your colleagues — see who sees what.

How the percentage is worked out

Attended sessions divided by counted sessions, where:

  • Present and late both count as attended.
  • Excused sessions are removed from the denominator.
  • An unmarked past session is excluded from everyone. If you forget to take the register, nobody is penalised for it. That is why the screen warns you about unrecorded sessions rather than quietly counting them as absences.
Certificates read this number
A course certificate requires at least three completed classes and 75% attendance. If a student is refused a certificate they believe they have earned, the usual cause is unmarked sessions rather than a disagreement about who turned up.

Absence alerts

Ticking Notify newly absent when you save sends each newly absent student a notification, and copies it to any linked parent. It fires once per absence — re-saving the same session does not send it again.

Export

Export CSV gives you a matrix: one row per student, one column per session, for the batch on screen. It opens cleanly in Excel and Google Sheets.

Who sees what

  • You and your co-teachers — everything, including notes.
  • Students — their own percentage per batch, the 75% certificate line, and the session list. Never the notes.
  • Parents — the same as their own child sees, read-only. A parent can never see more than the student can. See the parent dashboard.
