Students & parents10 min read
Who this is for
Students of any age or level — school students preparing for board exams, JEE, NEET, or competitive exams; college students seeking subject help; working professionals upskilling through structured online courses. Parents searching on behalf of their children can follow the same steps.

Step 1 — Create your account

  1. Go to /register?role=student. Select Student as your role.
  2. Enter your name, email address, and a password (min 8 characters).
  3. Accept the terms and click Create account.
  4. You'll land on your student dashboard at /dashboard/student. From here you can track upcoming classes, pending assignments, and enrolled courses.
Registration is free
Creating a student account on Tuition.in is completely free. You only pay when you enroll in a paid course batch. Free course batches (₹0) never ask for payment details.

Step 2 — Find a tutor

The Find a tutor page lets you search across thousands of individual tutors and coaching centres. Use the filters to narrow your results:

  • Subject — e.g., "Physics", "JEE Mathematics", "IELTS English". You can type a specific sub-topic; the search matches partial names.
  • Grade / level — "Class 10", "Class 12", "Undergraduate", "Dropper". Tutors who teach that grade show up first.
  • City — for home tuition or nearby centres. For fully online tutors, leave city blank.
  • Teaching mode — Online, Home tuition, or At tutor's place.
  • Language — Hindi, English, Telugu, Tamil, etc. Useful when you need a medium-of-instruction match.
  • Demo available — filters to tutors offering a free trial class. Highly recommended for your first session.

Click any tutor card to open their full profile. Read their bio, qualifications, subjects, rates, and student reviews before deciding.

Shortlist before you commit
Open 3-4 tutor profiles, compare their bios and ratings, then book a free demo with your top choice. Most students who attend a demo class enroll within 24 hours.

Step 3 — Browse & enroll in courses

Tutors and coaching centres publish structured online courses — each course has one or more batches with a fixed schedule and price.

  1. Find a course via a tutor's profile page (scroll to their "Courses" section) or browse directly at /courses.
  2. Open the course page. You'll see: the curriculum overview, what you'll learn, requirements, batch schedule, and price.
  3. Choose a batch that fits your schedule (morning / evening / weekend options are common). Click Enroll.
  4. Free batch (₹0) — you're enrolled instantly, no payment step.
  5. Paid batch — you'll go through Razorpay checkout. Pay by UPI, card, or net banking. On success, your enrollment is confirmed and you receive a confirmation email with class schedule details.
Check batch capacity
Popular batches fill up quickly. Once a batch reaches capacity the Enroll button shows "Batch full." Check if the same course has other batch timings, or contact the tutor/institution to request a new batch.

Step 4 — Join a live class

Live classes run on a built-in video room — no Zoom, no external app needed. Here's how to join:

  1. Go to your student dashboard → My classes (/dashboard/student/classes). Your upcoming classes are listed with date and time.
  2. You'll also receive an email reminder 30 minutes before class and a notification on the platform.
  3. At class time, click Join class. The class room opens in a new tab.
  4. Allow your browser to access your microphone and camera when prompted (you need to allow this only once per browser).
  5. You'll enter as a participant — video, audio, chat, and whiteboard view are all available.
Join 5 minutes early
Arrive a few minutes before class time to resolve any audio/camera permission issues before the session starts. The teacher cannot admit you mid-way through a screen-share.
What you can do in the class room:
  • Toggle your camera and mic — click the camera/mic icons in the bottom toolbar. Mute yourself when not speaking to reduce background noise.
  • Raise hand — alerts the teacher you have a question without interrupting.
  • Chat — type questions in the class chat. The teacher will answer live or in writing.
  • Whiteboard — view the teacher's whiteboard. Some teachers may allow students to annotate too.
  • Leave class — click the red Leave button when you're done. You don't have to wait for the teacher to end the session.
On slow internet
If your video freezes, try: (1) turn off your own camera to save bandwidth, (2) close other browser tabs, (3) switch to a wired connection if possible. The audio-only mode uses <100 kbps and works on most mobile data connections.

Step 5 — Submit assignments

Teachers can post assignments with a deadline. You'll receive a notification when a new assignment is posted.

  1. Go to /dashboard/student/assignments. All pending assignments across your enrolled courses appear here.
  2. Click the assignment title to read the instructions and deadline.
  3. Type your answers in the submission text box, or upload a PDF / image if the assignment requires file submission.
  4. Click Submit. You'll get a confirmation notification.
  5. After the teacher grades it, you'll receive a notification with your score and any feedback comments.
Deadline is firm
Assignments cannot be submitted after the deadline unless the teacher extends it. If you need more time, message the teacher directly before the deadline.

Step 6 — Watch recordings

Classes are recorded automatically. Recordings become available in your dashboard within a few minutes of the class ending.

  1. Go to /dashboard/student/recordings.
  2. All past classes for your enrolled batches appear here with the class title, date, and duration.
  3. Click a recording to stream it directly in the browser.
Recording availability
Recordings are available as long as your enrollment is active. If you un-enroll (or are refunded), access to recordings for that batch ends. Download to your device if you want a permanent copy — look for the download icon in the player.

Step 7 — Track your progress

The Progress page shows a consolidated view of your learning activity:

  • Classes attended — total classes joined vs. total scheduled across your batches.
  • Assignments — submitted vs. total; average score.
  • Active enrollments — courses and batches you're currently enrolled in with their next class date.
  • Completed courses — batches whose schedule has ended.

Booking a free demo class

Many tutors offer a free trial class before you commit to a paid batch. Here's how to get one:

  1. On the tutor's profile page, look for the Demo available badge. Only tutors who have activated this offer show the badge.
  2. Click Book free demo. You'll see the tutor's available days and time slots.
  3. Select a slot and confirm. You'll get a calendar invite and a reminder.
  4. Join at the scheduled time from your My classes page — exactly like a regular class.
  5. After the demo, the tutor may send you a batch enrollment link or you can enroll directly from their course page.
No credit card for demos
Free demo classes never ask for payment. You'll only be charged when you choose to enroll in a paid batch after the demo.

Leaving a review

After attending at least one class in a batch, you can leave a rating and review for the tutor or institution. Reviews help other students make better decisions.

  1. Go to the tutor's or institution's public profile page.
  2. Scroll to the Reviews section.
  3. Click Write a review, select a star rating (1–5), and write a short comment (optional but encouraged).
  4. Submit — your review will appear on the profile within a few minutes.
Reviews are public
Your display name and rating are shown publicly. Your email and enrollment details are never shown. Be honest and constructive — reviews that violate our community guidelines will be removed.

FAQ

Can I enroll in multiple courses at the same time?

Yes, there's no limit. You can be enrolled in any number of batches across different tutors or institutions simultaneously.

How do I request a refund?

Go to the course page, scroll to your enrolled batch, and click Request refund. The tutor or institution will review and approve or decline within 2 business days. Refunds go back to your original payment method via Razorpay. See the enrollment guide for full details.

I missed a live class — can I still watch it?

Yes. All classes are recorded automatically. Go to /dashboard/student/recordings to watch the replay. Recordings are usually available within 15 minutes of the class ending.

What if the class doesn't start on time?

Wait up to 10 minutes — sometimes teachers are delayed. If the class still hasn't started, send a message via WhatsApp (the tutor's contact is shown on their profile). If the class is cancelled without notice, you're entitled to a refund for that session — contact [email protected].

Can I change my batch after enrolling?

Batch transfers are at the tutor's or institution's discretion. Send them a message explaining your scheduling conflict. If a transfer isn't possible, you can request a refund and re-enroll in a different batch.

Is my payment information safe?

All payments are processed by Razorpay — Tuition.in never stores your card or UPI details. Razorpay is RBI-compliant and PCI-DSS certified.
