Safe posting

Students share their work, teachers share what works, and every post is checked before anyone sees it: by our own word checks, by AI, and by a person whenever the AI isn't sure.

Where to find it
The school switches it on from School Feed → Settings. Students post from their Campus page; class teachers decide on My work; the school's admins on the Waiting tab of the School Feed. The Showcase and the Staff room are in the sidebar.

Overview

The school feed is where the school shares school life with families. This page covers what was added for children: students can share their own work with their class, and the best of it can go into the tuition.in Showcase; teachers can share ideas with teachers at other schools. All of it is checked before it shows, and nothing is ever deleted: a post is taken down and kept, so whatever a parent or the school asks about later is still there.

How posts are checked

  1. Word checks on our own server. A student's post or comment with a phone number, an email, a link, a username for another app, an address, or rude or unkind words (in English and Hindi, including disguised spellings) is refused, saying what to take out. A teacher or the school gets a reminder instead, for their own number or for a post about results, fees, health or discipline, and can post anyway.
  2. The AI. Claude, Anthropic's AI, reads the words and looks at every photo against the rules of the place it's going to (below). It answers clean, suspicious (saying why) or unsafe.
  3. A person, when needed. Clean posts go up at once. A suspicious one waits for the nearest person in charge, who sees what the AI noticed and puts it up or declines it with a reason; the person who posted is told.
  • Unsafe (sexual content, a child undressed or in swimwear, an adult seeking private contact with a child, a child writing about self-harm) is hidden at once and sent to tuition.in, and the school is told urgently. Photos the AI flagged this way stay blurred until the person deciding chooses to look.
  • Words about getting hurt from a child always go to the class teacher, marked urgent, with a note to check on the child.
  • If the AI can't answer (switched off, or not responding), a child's post waits for the class teacher and nothing goes into the Showcase unchecked; adults' posts and comments go as before.
  • If the AI declines to judge something, a person looks at it, whoever wrote it.
  • Every verdict, from the word checks, the AI and each person who decided, is kept on a record that is only ever added to.
The checks help; people decide
No filter catches everything. Teachers and the school stay responsible for what goes up, and anyone can report a post (see Reports).

What to post, and what not to

These rules are shown beside every post box, and the AI checks against them.

Students

  • Do post: your own drawings, models, experiments, writing, poems and code; questions for your class; what you learned on a trip, once you're back.
  • Don't post: photos of people (in the Showcase, not of yourself either); your phone number, address, school timings, bus route or where you are right now; usernames or links to other apps; other children's names or marks; jokes or memes about anyone, or screenshots of chats; adverts; answers to a test that's still running.

Teachers and the school

  • Do post: activities, events, group photos and displays of work, reminders, homework highlights, achievements the family has agreed to share.
  • Don't post: one child's marks or rank, or result lists (those stay on report cards); who owes fees; anything about discipline, counselling, health, special needs, caste, religion or family matters; any child involved in an incident, or who was harmed; children changing, swimming, asleep, crying or being punished; children whose families keep them out of photos; close-ups of one child without the family's agreement; trip timings or locations while the trip is on.

Teachers in the Staff room

  • Do share: lesson ideas, activities, worksheets you made, classroom tips, questions for other teachers.
  • Don't share: any child's photo, name or work that could identify them; complaints about named students, parents, colleagues or schools; papers for exams that haven't been held; scanned textbooks or other people's paid material; tuition adverts or selling; political or religious campaigning.

Students' posts

When the school switches on Students can post to their class, a student sees a post box on their Campus page, addressed to their class this year.

  • Words (up to 1,000 characters) and up to four photos of their work. Photos need the tick These photos show my work, not people's faces. No video links.
  • Posts appear as their first name and initial ("Aarav S.").
  • A post the AI finds clean goes up at once, and the student's parents are told, so they always know what their child shares. One the AI questions waits for the class teacher, and the student sees why.
  • At most five posts a day.
  • The student, or their parent from the child's Campus tab, can take a post down at any time.
  • Up to Class 7, students comment only by picking a kind phrase ("Great work!", "How did you make it?"); from Class 8 they write their own words, which are checked like posts.

Class teachers

On My work, above the feed, a class teacher sees what waits for them from their class: students' posts and comments, each with what the AI noticed.

  • Put it up, or Decline with a reason the student and their parents see. A held comment can be shown or kept hidden.
  • On a student's post in their class: Suggest for the whole school (the school's admins decide) and Put forward for the Showcase.
  • Their own posts are checked too: one the AI questions waits for the school's admins.

The school's admins

  • The Waiting tab of the School Feed lists teachers' posts the AI questioned, comments held on posts to the whole school, students' posts waiting for a class teacher, students' posts suggested for the whole school, and anything sent on to tuition.in (which the school can decline but not put up).
  • The school's own posts get a reminder when the word checks or the AI question something; Post anyway sends it, and the AI's verdict is kept with the post. Something the AI calls unsafe can't be posted.
  • Take down hides a post from everyone and keeps it on record. If a family asks for their child's photos to be erased, Erase photos on a post that has been taken down removes the photo files for good; the post's record stays.
  • Settings: students can post (off to start with); the AI check (on to start with; with it off, every student post waits for the class teacher); the Showcase and whether to show the school's name there (both off to start with).

The tuition.in Showcase

Students' best work, from schools across tuition.in, for students and parents to enjoy. It is deliberately not a social network.

  1. The school (its admins, or the class teacher) puts forward a student's post that is already up on the class feed, choosing what kind of work it is and ticking that no faces, names or uniform badges can be seen.
  2. A parent linked to the child's account is asked in their app, sees exactly the words and photos that would be shown, and says yes or no. Without a linked parent, work can't be put forward.
  3. The AI checks it again against the Showcase's stricter rules; anything it questions waits for tuition.in.
  4. It goes up, credited only "Aarav S. · Class 6 · Jaipur" (with the school's name only if the school allows it).
  • Only the work: no faces, no names, no locations.
  • Three reactions (⭐ 🤩 💡) and nothing else: no comments, messages, follows or profiles. Only the child and their family see how many people liked it.
  • Newest first. It is never ranked by what children click or watch: India's data protection law doesn't allow tracking children's behaviour, and we don't.
  • Students and parents can see it; tutor, teacher and school accounts can't browse it.
  • The student, a parent, the school or tuition.in can take an entry down at any time; taking down the class post takes the entry down too.
Opening soon
The Showcase opens when tuition.in switches it on. Until then schools don't see the option.

The Staff room

Teachers on a school's staff list who sign in with their own account, and schools' own accounts, can open the Staff room from the sidebar. Students and parents can't.

  • Share a lesson idea, an activity, a worksheet, a classroom tip or a question, with the subject and class, an https link, and up to four photos (ticking that no child can be seen or named in them).
  • Posts show the teacher's name and school. Other teachers react (👍 helpful, 🙏 thanks, 💡 good idea) and comment; the teacher is told about comments.
  • Contact details, and anything the AI questions, wait for tuition.in before others see them.
  • Teachers can take down their own posts and comments.

Reports and urgent cases

  • Anyone who can see a post or comment can report it: unkind or abusive; shows a child who shouldn't be shown; sexual, or shows a child undressed; wrong information; spam; something else.
  • Three different people reporting the same thing hide it until someone decides: the school for its feed, tuition.in for the Showcase and the Staff room.
  • One report that it is sexual or shows a child undressed hides it at once, marks it urgent, and tells the school and tuition.in, by email too.
  • Sexual content involving a child is a crime, and anyone who comes across it must report it to the police (POCSO Act, section 19). Such posts are hidden, never deleted, so that the evidence is kept.
  • Under India's IT Rules, complaints to tuition.in are acknowledged within 24 hours and settled within 15 days, and content showing nudity or a sexual act is removed within 24 hours of a complaint. The grievance officer is named at the foot of the Showcase.

Privacy and the AI

  • To be checked, a post's words and photos, and a comment's words, are sent to Claude, Anthropic's AI. They are sent only to be checked. A school can switch the AI check off; then people check every student post instead.
  • Photos stay private files, shown only to people signed in whom the post reaches. The Showcase uses the class post's photos; nothing is copied.
  • Nothing is deleted. Posts, comments and Showcase entries are taken down and kept; a reaction taken back is marked. The one exception is photo files erased at a family's request.
  • For the Showcase, a parent agrees to each piece of work separately, and can take it down again at any time.

Questions

Why did my post wait? The AI noticed something it wanted a person to see, such as faces in a student's photo, or it couldn't check the post just then. You're told who it waits for, and you're told when it goes up or why it didn't.

Can students message each other here? No. Students share their work and comment on their class's posts; there are no private messages.

Can a child's post be deleted? It can be taken down by the child, their parent or the school at any time. It stays on record, where only the school sees it.

Does the AI decide on its own? It puts up only what it finds clean, under the rules on this page. Anything it isn't sure about, and everything from a child when it can't check, goes to a person.
