Classes, sections & promotion

Every academic year, every class and section, who sits where, and moving the whole school up a class at the end of the year.

Where to find it
Classes & Sections in the sidebar, under Campus. Pick the year at the top; the tabs are Sections, Promotion and Year setup.

Overview

The student register says who is on your rolls. Classes and sections say where each of them sits this year: Class 9 A, with its class teacher, its room and its seats. Everything else reads from here: the daily register lists each section's students, school fees are billed by section, and report cards are made per section.

A student's place is kept year by year, so last year's Class 8 B is still on record after they move up.

Academic years

Press New year and give it a name (2026-27) and its first and last days. The first time, the page suggests the current year for you.

  • A year is Upcoming until you start it, then Current, then Closed when the next one starts.
  • If you run several schools, a year usually covers every school. Pick one school only if it runs on a different calendar (a state-board school starting in June, say).
  • Edit dates changes a year's first and last days.

Sections

A section is one class's division for the year. Press Add section and choose:

  • Class: Pre-nursery, Nursery, LKG, UKG, or Class 1 to 12.
  • Section: A, B… or a name like Rose. Leave it blank for a class with one section.
  • Stream for Classes 11 and 12: Science, Commerce or Humanities.
  • Seats and room.
  • Class teacher, from your staff list.
  • Batch for fees, attendance and exams: the batch that carries this section's online classes, tests and batch fees, if you use them. When the year starts, every student in the section who has a tuition.in account is enrolled in it.

Sections are shown by class, with how full each one is. A section over its seats shows its count in red. A section with nobody in it can be deleted.

Copy last year's sections
In a new year with no sections yet, Copy 2025-26's sections makes the same classes, sections, streams, seats, rooms and class teachers in one go. Link their batches afterwards, and change any class teacher who has moved.

Putting students in a section

Tap a section to open it, then Add students. The list shows students on the register who are not yet in any section this year (at this section's school, or tied to none). Search by name, admission number or old class, tick them, and press Add.

  • Number rolls A–Z gives roll numbers in alphabetical order.
  • The cross on a row takes a student out of the section.
  • Students who have a tuition.in account are marked Has account.

If students on the register are in no section this year, the Sections tab says how many, so nobody is missed by attendance or billing.

The year setup checklist

The Year setup tab lists what is still to do for the year, school by school, checked against last year:

  • Sections set up, and one for every class taught last year.
  • Every section has a class teacher and a batch.
  • Every student on the register is in a section.
  • Everyone has a roll number.
  • No section is over its seats.

Promotion

Do this when the year's results are out. On the Promotion tab, pick the year From and the year Into (or Create next year if it doesn't exist yet). The next year needs its sections first: copy them on the Sections tab.

Each section lists its students. For each one choose Promote, Keep back, Passed out or Left:

  • Promote moves them to the next class, to the section with the same letter (and stream) where there is one. Where the next class has several sections you choose which.
  • Keep back places them in the same class next year.
  • Passed out is for the final class; Left is for anyone not coming back.
  • Promote all on a section fills every row at once; then change the few that differ.

A student whose final report card says Detained starts as Keep back. If a class has nowhere to go next year, you're told which; add that section or keep those students back. Record promotion stays greyed out until every promoted or kept-back student has a section.

Recording promotion changes nothing yet
Promotion only decides where everyone goes. The register, batches and fees change when you start the new year. You can record it, check it, and record it again until then.

Starting the new year

On the new year's Sections tab, press Start 2026-27 and confirm. In one step:

  • It becomes the current year, and the previous one is closed.
  • Every student's class on the register is updated to their new section.
  • Students with accounts are enrolled in their new section's batch, and their place in last year's section batch is closed.
  • Students recorded as passed out or left are marked as left on the register.

The message afterwards says how many of each changed.

Questions

A student joined mid-year. Add them to the register, then open their section and add them. Number the rolls again if you want them in order.

A student moved from 9 A to 9 B. Take them out of 9 A and add them to 9 B. Their past attendance stays on record, and marks entered so far follow them, because both sections share the class's exam plan.

Do I have to use batches? No. Sections work on their own for the daily register, school fees and report cards. A batch is only needed for online classes, tests and batch fees for students with accounts.

Who can do this? You, and team members with the Students part. See Team access.
