Clay Modelling for ages 5–12
Clay is the most hands-on of the arts, and children love it because there is no wrong first touch. Using air-dry clay that hardens without a kiln, your child learns the three hand-building methods potters use, and how to join pieces so they don't fall off. Each project dries at home and gets painted in the next session.

How 3 sessions get there
Each session is 60 minutes, live, and builds on the last. Your child is doing something for most of it.
Wedge and soften the clay, then pinch a small bowl. Learn scoring and slip, the 'glue' of pottery.
Roll even coils and build a coil pot. Paint the dried pinch pot from session 1.
Model an animal from joined parts that stay on. Paint and varnish the coil pot.
What's in the Clay Studio Kit
Everything your child needs for the sessions arrives in one box before session 1, and all of it is theirs to keep.
- 1 kg of white air-dry clay
- Six-piece wooden modelling tool set
- Small rolling pin
- Canvas work mat
- Six acrylic paints and a brush
- Water-based varnish
Live with a coach, hands on the kit
Here is session 2. The coach shows one idea, the children try it straight away with the kit, and they hold their work up to the camera for feedback.
What your family needs to know
You'll need
- A table cover or old newspaper
- A small bowl of water and a cloth
Ready if
Your child is 5 or older. Younger children enjoy it with a parent helping.
Where you come in
Find a safe shelf for pieces to dry for two days between sessions. Avoid direct sun, which cracks clay.
Reserve a seat
guru.cool will call to confirm a batch time and the fee, and where the kit should go.
