Astronomy & Space for ages 8–14
Most children have never been shown how to find anything in the sky. This workshop changes that. They build a scale model that finally makes space feel as big as it is, learn why the Moon changes shape, follow India's missions, and in an evening session use the star wheel from the kit to find constellations from home.
The ability to find five constellations in the real night sky, plus a scale model of the solar system
How 3 sessions get there
Each session is 60 minutes, live, and builds on the last. Your child is doing something for most of it.
If the Sun were a 20 cm ball, Earth would be a peppercorn about 21 metres away. Children lay out the scale string from the kit and feel the distances.
Why the Moon has phases and the same face, then Chandrayaan-3's landing near the lunar south pole and Aditya-L1 watching the Sun.
An evening session. With the star wheel set to tonight's date, children find the Pole Star direction, two bright planets if they are up, and five constellations.
What's in the Night Sky Kit
Everything your child needs for the sessions arrives in one box before session 1, and all of it is theirs to keep.
- Star wheel (planisphere) set for Indian latitudes
- Red-light torch that keeps night vision
- Solar-system scale string with planet beads
- Moon phase cards
- Moon-watching journal for 30 nights
Live with a coach, hands on the kit
Here is session 2. The coach shows one idea, the children try it straight away with the kit, and they hold their work up to the camera for feedback.
What your family needs to know
You'll need
- A balcony, terrace or window with some open sky for session 3
- A phone or laptop that can be carried outside for the evening session
Ready if
Your child has asked a question about space, which is almost every child.
Where you come in
Join session 3 outside. Finding a constellation together is the moment most families remember.
Reserve a seat
guru.cool will call to confirm a batch time and the fee, and where the kit should go.
