Junior Scientist: Kitchen Lab for ages 5–9
Young children are natural scientists: they ask why, and then they want to pour something. This workshop gives that a method. Your child predicts, tries, watches and writes down what happened, across eight safe experiments with kitchen ingredients and real lab tools from the kit.
Eight experiments done with their own hands, recorded in their own lab journal
How 3 sessions get there
Each session is 45 minutes, live, and builds on the last. Your child is doing something for most of it.
Make a red cabbage indicator and watch it turn pink with lemon and green with baking soda. Then the baking soda and vinegar balloon.
Build a density tower from honey, soap, water and oil, then test which household things sink in which layer.
Capillary action with paper towels and colours, soap that chases pepper across water, and static that bends a stream of water.
What's in the Little Lab Kit
Everything your child needs for the sessions arrives in one box before session 1, and all of it is theirs to keep.
- Children's safety goggles
- Three plastic test tubes with a stand
- Two droppers and a measuring cylinder
- Red cabbage indicator powder
- pH colour chart
- Magnifying glass
- Balloons
- Lab journal with a page for each experiment
Live with a coach, hands on the kit
Here is session 2. The coach shows one idea, the children try it straight away with the kit, and they hold their work up to the camera for feedback.
What your family needs to know
You'll need
- Lemon, baking soda, vinegar, honey, cooking oil, dish soap and paper towels from the kitchen
- A tray or old newspaper to work on
Ready if
Your child is 5 or older and can follow two-step instructions. Younger children enjoy it with an adult beside them.
Where you come in
Sit with children under 7. Everything is kitchen-safe, but pouring goes better with a second pair of hands.
Reserve a seat
guru.cool will call to confirm a batch time and the fee, and where the kit should go.
