Quiz Battles

Challenge a friend on questions nobody can argue with — and climb your exam's rating.

Who this is for
Students preparing for a competitive exam — NEET, JEE, SSC, banking, CAT, CUET, NDA, UPSC, CLAT, GATE and more — who revise better with a friend to beat. Open /dashboard/student/battles (sidebar: Quiz Battles).

Overview

You play ten questions first. Your answers and your times become a “ghost” that your friends race: after each question they see how you did on it — “Riya: ✓ in 8.2 s”. Nobody has to be online at the same time.

Starting a battle

  1. Pick the exam. Your own exam is chosen for you if we know it.
  2. Pick a section (or Mixed), and optionally one topic.
  3. Press Create and play first, and play your ten questions.

Sharing it

When you finish, press Challenge on WhatsApp — the message carries your score and a link — or Copy link. A friend who opens it sees who challenged them, the topic and the score to beat; if they don't have an account yet, they can make one free and land straight in the battle. Any number of friends can take on the same battle.

Playing

  • Each question has 30 seconds. The bar at the top shows the time left.
  • Tap an answer. You immediately see if it was right, the points you got, how your opponent did on the same question, and why the answer is what it is.
  • Press Next when you're ready — reading the explanation never eats into the next question's time.
  • Think a question is wrong? Use the flag under it to tell us.

Scoring and timing

  • A right answer scores 100, plus up to 50 for speed. A wrong answer, or no answer, scores 0.
  • Time is measured by our server from when the question appears, so it's the same for everyone. Reloading the page doesn't reset the clock.
  • After 30 seconds (plus a couple of seconds' grace for a slow connection) the question counts as wrong.
  • The higher score wins; on a tie, the faster total time wins.

Results and rating

At the end you see who won, both scores, and the board of everyone who has played that battle. Each exam has its own battle rating: everyone starts at 1200, and every battle against someone moves both players' ratings — more for beating someone rated above you. The panel on the right shows your rating and a leaderboard for Everyone or just My study groups.

Every answer also counts as practice: XP, your misses in your Error Book (as Quiz battle), and your Learning Genome.

Rematch on what you lost

Under your result, Rematch on these builds a new battle on the topics you got wrong (plus weak topics from your Learning Genome), with ten questions you haven't seen. Play it, then send it back.

Study groups and classes

  • Study groups — when creating a battle, choose one of your study groups and the link is posted in the group's chat for everyone.
  • Live classes — your tutor can start a battle for the whole class from the Battle tab in the live class. It pops up for you; press Join the battle and watch the class board move live. See Class battles.

Why it's fair

Battles use only our hand-authored, web-verified question bank — never AI-generated questions — so nobody loses on a wrong answer key. The answers never reach your phone before you answer, and the timing is the server's, not your device's. Questions with diagrams are left out: thirty seconds isn't enough to read one.

Which exams, and limits

  • Battles cover the exams in our verified bank: NEET, JEE Main, JEE Advanced, SSC CGL, IBPS PO and Clerk, SBI PO and Clerk, RRB NTPC, CAT, XAT, CUET, NDA, UPSC, CLAT, GATE, CTET, UGC NET and NEET PG. Class 11–12 students can battle on JEE Main or NEET topics for Physics, Chemistry, Maths and Biology.
  • School battles for Class 6–10 aren't available yet.
  • Up to 40 new battles a day.
