Overview
Study rooms are silent video rooms that stay open around the clock. You join, turn your camera on, and work. Nobody talks. Nobody is teaching. Nothing is being recorded or marked. The only thing happening is that several people are studying at the same time and can see each other doing it.
There is no host, no schedule and no session to complete. Join when you sit down to work, leave when you stop.
Why studying near people works
Studying alone at home is harder than studying in a library, and it is not because the library is quieter. It is that other people are visibly working, so stopping becomes conspicuous — first to yourself. The effect has a name in study circles, body doubling, and it is most of what a study room is for.
It is worth being clear about what this is not: it is not a group study session, not a discussion, and not supervision. Nobody is checking on you. The pull is entirely social and entirely voluntary, which is also why it works better than a rule would.
The three rooms
Three rooms rather than one, because the kind of work you are doing changes who you want to sit with.

Joining a room
- Open Dashboard → Study Rooms.
- Pick a room. There is nothing to book and nothing to schedule.
- You arrive muted. Silence is the convention, so it is the default rather than a rule you have to remember.
- Turn your camera on if you want the accountability. It is optional and reversible at any point.
Inside the room
You see a grid of everyone currently in the room, and they see you if your camera is on. The timer sits alongside. That is the whole interface — there is deliberately nothing else to interact with, because a study room with features is a distraction with a study room attached.
The rules, such as they are
- Mics stay off. These are silent rooms; there is no discussion. If you want to talk to people, use a study group instead.
- Cameras are the point, but optional. The accountability comes from being visible. If you would rather not appear, you can still join and see others.
- No host, no schedule. Nobody is running the room and nobody is waiting for you.
- Leave whenever. There is no session to finish and nothing is scored.
The 25-minute timer
Each room has a 25-minute pomodoro timer for sprints. Start it, work until it ends, take a break, start it again.
Twenty-five minutes is short enough to start when you do not feel like starting, which is the situation the timer exists for.
Camera decisions
The most common reason people skip study rooms is not wanting to be on camera. Two things worth knowing:
And if you would rather not turn it on at all, joining camera-off still works. Seeing other people working carries a good deal of the effect on its own.
Privacy and safety
- You join muted, and your camera is off until you choose to turn it on.
- Rooms are for signed-in learners on the platform. They are not open to the public web.
- Nothing is recorded. There is no replay of a study room and no archive of who was in one.
- Nothing is monitored or scored. No report goes to a tutor or parent about your time in a room.
- You can leave instantly at any point.
Troubleshooting

Common questions
Can I talk to people in the room?
No — these are silent rooms by design. For discussion, use peer discussion or a study group.
Do I need a good camera or fast internet?
No. Video is low-bandwidth and you can join camera-off entirely.
Is anyone checking that I am actually studying?
No. There is no monitoring, no score and no report. The accountability is social, not enforced.
Does time in a study room earn XP?
No. XP comes from work you complete — see streak, XP & league. A room is where you do the work, not the work itself.
Can I study with just my friends?
The rooms are shared. For a private group, use a study group in your inbox.
