Overview
The Diagnostic Test is an adaptive, AI-powered assessment that maps your understanding across all major topics within a subject. Unlike a fixed test, questions adapt to your answers: get one right and the next is harder; get it wrong and the system explores adjacent topics at an easier difficulty to find your true knowledge boundary.
After completing the test, your Learning Profile is automatically created — a visual mastery map showing every topic colour-coded by level, your weakest areas, and a recommended study path.
Taking the diagnostic
- Go to Dashboard → Diagnostic Test (or the link from your student overview).
- Select your Board, Grade, Subject, and Goal (e.g. School Mastery, JEE Prep, NEET). These parameters focus the topics and difficulty range of the test.
- Click Start Diagnostic. You will see a series of questions — each question shows its difficulty level (Easy / Medium / Hard) and the topic it tests.
- Answer each question honestly. The test has no time limit. Most diagnostics complete in 15–25 questions; the algorithm stops once it has enough data to classify every topic.
- When the test ends you are taken directly to your Learning Profileshowing your results.
Mastery levels explained
| Level | What it means | Recommended action |
|---|---|---|
| 🔴 Needs Work | Foundational gaps — concepts not yet understood | Start from basics; use flashcards + AI tutor |
| 🟡 Developing | Partial understanding — some concepts clear, others shaky | Focus practice on specific subtopics flagged |
| 🟢 Mastered | Solid understanding — can apply concepts correctly | Maintain with occasional revision |
| 🔵 Exceptional | Deep understanding — can handle hard/application questions | Move to next topic; help peers |
Your learning profile
The Learning Profile page (Dashboard → Learning Profile) persists across sessions and updates every time you complete a diagnostic or test. It shows:
- Subject mastery grid — every subject you've been tested on, with the dominant mastery level and a count of topics by level.
- Topic-level breakdown — expand any subject to see every topic and its current level, last updated date, and number of correct/incorrect answers.
- Weak topics list — automatically surfaces your top 5 topics most in need of attention, with direct links to relevant flashcard decks.
- Recommended study path — an ordered list of topics to tackle next based on curriculum dependencies and your current mastery.
- Profile setup — you can add learning style preferences (visual, reading, kinesthetic), exam goals, and study hours per day. The system uses this to personalise recommendations.
Retaking the test
You can retake the diagnostic for any subject at any time from the Diagnostic home page. Each new session updates your mastery levels incrementally — the system merges new evidence with your existing profile rather than replacing it entirely.
After completing a course or a significant study period, a retake will show you how your mastery has improved.
Tutor / parent view
Tutors can view a student's learning profile from the Student Insights page — select a student to see their subject mastery breakdown. This helps tutors identify which topics to prioritise in upcoming classes.
Parents with a linked child account can view the same mastery map from their Parent Dashboard.
