The State Bank of India's Probationary Officer recruitment is the most sought-after entry-level banking job in India, and its Preliminary examination is widely regarded as the hardest of the PO prelims papers. The puzzles are more complex, the data interpretation is more calculation-heavy and the English is more nuanced than in the IBPS equivalent. Prelims is 100 questions for 100 marks in 60 minutes, split into three sections of 20 minutes each: English Language (30 questions), Reasoning Ability (35) and Quantitative Aptitude (35). Puzzles and seating arrangement get the largest single share of teaching time in Reasoning, and data interpretation the largest in Quantitative Aptitude, because those are the blocks where SBI PO is genuinely harder than its peers.
