What you'll learn

Cover all four CA Foundation papers — Accounting, Business Laws, Quantitative Aptitude and Business Economics — each weighted by its real share of the syllabus.
Clear the 40% floor in every paper, since a single paper below 40 fails the entire attempt no matter how high your aggregate is.
Write subjective answers the way ICAI marks them: correct format, visible working notes and structured presentation, where partial credit is genuinely available.
Apply attempt discipline in Papers 3 and 4, where each wrong answer costs 0.25 marks and four wrong answers cancel one correct one.
Build the accounting foundation the Intermediate stage assumes — journal to final accounts, and the special-transaction chapters that recur throughout the qualification.
Handle the two exam modes as the different skills they are, rather than preparing for all four papers in a single undifferentiated way.

Why this course

Built around the 40% floor
You need 40% in every paper and 50% overall. Your weakest paper decides your result, so preparation time is deliberately spent there instead of on the subject you already enjoy.
Two exams, two skills
Papers 1 and 2 reward presentation and working notes with partial credit. Papers 3 and 4 punish wrong answers. Preparing for both identically is the most common strategic mistake here.
Accounting taught from zero
Foundation admits students from every Class 12 stream. Paper 1 starts at first principles, so a science or arts background is not a disadvantage.
Built for what comes next
Accounting and Business Laws at Foundation are directly assumed by the Intermediate stage. Depth here is taught as an investment, not as something to be forgotten after the result.

About this course

CA Foundation is the entry level of the Chartered Accountancy course conducted by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India. It is the first of three stages — Foundation, Intermediate and Final — and the gateway most students enter straight after Class 12. The exam is four papers of 100 marks each, 400 marks in total, held in offline pen-and-paper mode. Papers 1 and 2, Accounting and Business Laws, are subjective. Papers 3 and 4, Quantitative Aptitude and Business Economics, are objective multiple-choice and carry negative marking of 0.25 marks for each wrong answer. The pass rule is where most candidates come unstuck, and it is worth stating plainly: you need at least 40% in every single paper AND 50% in aggregate. Both conditions, not either. A candidate scoring 75 in Accounting and 38 in Business Economics has 50%-plus in aggregate and still fails, because one paper fell below 40. This makes CA Foundation a test of consistency rather than of peak performance, and it means your weakest paper — not your strongest — determines whether you clear. That structure also demands two genuinely different exam skills in one sitting. Papers 1 and 2 reward presentation, working notes and structured written answers, where partial credit exists and nothing is lost for an imperfect attempt. Papers 3 and 4 reward precision and attempt discipline, where a wrong answer actively costs you. Preparing for both as though they were the same exam is the most common strategic error at this level. Eligibility & who can join: • Candidates who have passed Class 12 (or an equivalent examination recognised by the Central Government) may register for and appear in CA Foundation. • Students may register with the ICAI Board of Studies after appearing in Class 12, and must complete a prescribed study period before becoming eligible to sit the examination. • There is no upper age limit and no restriction on the number of attempts. • Registration is valid for a fixed period and may be revalidated as per ICAI rules. • Always confirm eligibility, registration cut-off dates and the study-period requirement against the official announcements at icai.org. How the course is structured: The course is taught paper by paper, but deliberately in two different modes, because the exam tests two different skills. Accounting and Business Laws are taught with written-answer discipline throughout — format, working notes and presentation are marked, and practice is written out in full rather than solved mentally. Quantitative Aptitude and Business Economics are taught with objective-test discipline: timed MCQ drills, and an explicit attempt rule for the 0.25-mark penalty. Accounting comes first and runs longest, since it carries the most conceptual load and everything in the Intermediate stage builds on it. Because the pass rule requires 40% in every paper, the course deliberately invests in your weakest paper rather than polishing your strongest — that is the arithmetic of this exam. ICAI normally holds Foundation examinations more than once a year; always confirm dates against the official notification.

Requirements

  • A Class 12 pass, or appearance in Class 12, together with ICAI registration and completion of the prescribed study period.
  • Comfort with Class 10 mathematics — the Quantitative Aptitude paper builds from there and does not assume a commerce background.
  • No prior accounting knowledge is assumed; Paper 1 starts from first principles for students from any Class 12 stream.
  • A device with a stable internet connection for live classes, recordings and mock tests.
  • Willingness to write full answers by hand in practice, since Papers 1 and 2 are offline subjective papers and presentation carries marks.

Who it's for

  • Class 12 students and recent school leavers beginning the Chartered Accountancy route.
  • Commerce students who want a structured, paper-by-paper plan rather than four separate subject courses.
  • Students from science or arts streams entering CA without a commerce background, since Accounting is taught from first principles.
  • Repeat candidates who met the 50% aggregate but fell below 40% in one paper — the most common way this exam is failed.
