How NEET Physics Works — NEET Physics
Physics is the section most NEET aspirants fear — yet it is the most mechanical to score. Every one of the 45 questions is a short problem where you spot the quantity asked, pick the formula, and compute. There is almost no essay-style theory. Master a compact set of formulas, keep your units clean, and Physics becomes 180 reliable marks. This chapter sets the method the rest of the section is built on.
1. The section at a glance

- Two big blocks dominate: Mechanics (kinematics, laws of motion, work–energy, rotation, gravitation) and Electrodynamics (electrostatics, current, magnetism, EMI, AC).
- Modern Physics (dual nature, atoms, nuclei, semiconductors) and Optics are compact and high-yield — small syllabus, steady 7–9 questions between them.
2. The formula-first method
Every NEET physics question yields to the same four steps:
- Read the quantity asked — speed, force, current, magnification?
- List what is given with units; convert to SI first.
- Pick the one formula linking given to asked.
- Compute and check the unit of the answer.
The exam rewards recall speed, not derivation. Keep a one-line formula sheet per chapter and drill it until each formula is automatic.
3. Unit discipline wins marks
Most careless physics errors are unit slips, not concept gaps.
- Convert cm → m, g → kg, minutes → seconds before substituting.
- Carry units through the calculation; the answer's unit is a built-in check (a "force" that comes out in joules means a wrong formula).
- Learn the SI units of the core quantities: force (N), energy (J), power (W), charge (C), potential (V), resistance (Ω).
4. Marking strategy: attempt with judgement
With −1 for a wrong answer, blind guessing is penalised, but informed attempts pay off.
- If you can eliminate two options, attempting is favourable on average.
- Skip a genuine unknown rather than donate a mark.
- Physics has no sectional time limit — but budget roughly 35–40 minutes so Biology and Chemistry get their due.

Electrodynamics and Mechanics together are ~60% of the section. If your time is short, they are where it must go first.
6. Exam protocol
- Read the quantity asked before anything else.
- Convert every given to SI before substituting.
- Pick one formula; don't re-derive under time pressure.
- Check the answer's unit — it catches wrong-formula slips.
- Attempt when you can eliminate options; skip a true blank.
- Give Physics ~35–40 minutes, no more — protect Biology's 90 questions.
