Messages

Direct, private messaging with tutors and classmates — keep conversations focused and respectful.

Who this is for
Any student or tutor who wants to have a direct, private conversation with another user — for quick clarification questions, session scheduling, or feedback outside a live class.

Overview

The Messages feature provides a simple, direct-message inbox within the platform. Unlike the batch Discussion board (which is visible to all students), messages are private one-to-one conversations.

Using Messages

  1. Click the Messages icon in your dashboard navigation (envelope icon) or go to Dashboard → Messages.
  2. Your conversation list is shown on the left. Each conversation shows the other person's avatar (or initials if no photo), name, and a preview of the last message.
  3. Click any conversation to open it on the right and see the full message history.
  4. To start a new conversation, click New Message, search for the user by name, and type your message.
  5. Press Enter or click Send to send the message. The recipient receives a notification immediately.
Use Discussion for topic questions
If your question might benefit other students in the batch, post it on the Batch Discussion Board instead of sending a direct message to the tutor — this way everyone benefits from the answer.

Who you can message

You areYou can message
StudentTutors teaching your enrolled courses; students in the same batch
TutorAll enrolled students in their batches; other tutors at the same institution

You cannot message users you have no course relationship with. This keeps the inbox free from unsolicited messages.

Guidelines

  • Keep messages academic and professional.
  • Do not share personal contact information (phone numbers, social media handles) through the platform messaging system.
  • Use the Report link on any message to flag inappropriate content. The platform team reviews all reports.
  • Tutors are not obligated to respond outside working hours — check your tutor's stated availability in their profile.
