Overview
An enquiry is the first contact between a student and a tutor — “do you teach Class 10 Maths, and can I have a demo?” The only thing that matters about it is whether it arrives.
The platform sends it on the student's behalf across every channel it has for that recipient, and then reports what actually got through rather than assuring everyone it went fine.
Sending an enquiry
From a tutor or institution listing, use the contact or demo form. Say what you need — the class, the subject, when you are free, and whether you want a demo. The more specific you are, the faster the reply.
How it is delivered
Where the recipient is reachable, the enquiry goes out on three channels at once:
- Email, with your message and a link back to the listing.
- SMS, so it is seen even if email is not checked.
- An in-app notification on their dashboard.
The three kinds of recipient
Not every listing on the platform is a registered account. Some are directory listings compiled from public information, and they are treated differently on purpose.
| Recipient | What happens |
|---|---|
| Registered | The profile is claimed — someone signed up and consented to be contacted. Email, SMS and in-app notification, with no gating. |
| Directory listing | An unclaimed listing with a published contact. This is cold outreach to a third party, so it is controlled separately, carries a clear “why you received this” explanation, and honours the opt-out list. |
| No contact on file | The listing publishes no usable email or mobile. Nothing is sent to it. Your enquiry is routed to the platform team instead, and you are told so. |
You are told the truth
This is the part worth knowing. Most listings in a directory of this size publish no usable contact details at all. An enquiry form that says “they will contact you soon” regardless is lying to the student and wasting their week.
So the confirmation tells you what actually happened — whether it was delivered and on which channels. If it could not be delivered, it says so, and you can go and contact someone who is reachable instead of waiting.
Receiving and answering
Enquiries land in Dashboard → Enquiries & Demos alongside the email and SMS, with the student's message and requirements. Answer quickly — an enquiry is somebody deciding between you and three other tutors this evening.
If it becomes a session, take it into a booking so it is on both calendars with a payment attached.
Opting out
Every message sent to an unclaimed directory listing carries an opt-out link. Using it stops all further enquiry messages to that listing, permanently, without needing an account.
The alternative is to claim the listing — then it becomes a registered profile you control, and enquiries arrive in a dashboard instead of an inbox.
Common questions
Is my phone number shared with the tutor?
Your contact details are shared with the recipient so they can reply — that is the purpose of an enquiry. Do not include anything you would not want a prospective tutor to have.
Why did I receive an enquiry when I never signed up?
Your listing was compiled from publicly published contact details and a student contacted it. The message explains this, and the opt-out link stops it permanently.
How many enquiries can I send?
Sending is rate-limited to keep the channel usable. Contacting three or four well-chosen tutors works better than a blast.
