Class Capture

Record a class on your phone. Keep every word, the board where it was written, and every date your teacher mentioned.

Ask your teacher first
Always ask before you record a class. The reminder appears every time you start a recording.

Overview

Put your phone on the desk and press record. When the class ends you get timestamped notes of what your teacher said — with the board photos you took placed where they were taken — plus the homework and test dates they mentioned, straight onto your calendar. Open it at /dashboard/student/class-capture (sidebar: Class Capture).

Before you record

  1. Choose the language the class is taught in: Hindi + English, Hindi, Telugu or English. This helps the transcript keep English technical words in English.
  2. Optionally type the subject (“Physics”).
  3. Press Start recording and allow the microphone when your browser asks.

While recording

  • A big timer and a sound meter show it is listening. The meter moving is how you know the phone can hear the teacher.
  • The recording is saved one minute at a time while the class goes on. “12 min saved” means those minutes are safe, even if your battery dies.
  • Last thing we heard shows the latest line, so you can check the words are coming through.
  • Your screen stays on during the recording where your phone allows it. Keep the tab open.
  • No signal? Minutes wait on the phone and upload when you're back online (“Offline — 3 min waiting”).
  • Pause for a break, Resume after. Press End class when it's over.

Snap the board

Tap Snap the board whenever the teacher writes something worth keeping. Each photo is pinned to the second you tapped. It is read straight away — a tick means it came out; a warning means try again, closer. In your notes the board appears at exactly that point in the class, with what was written typed out beneath it.

After the class

Press End class and the class opens in My Library, where it is read into notes (a minute or two for a long class). You get:

  • Lecture notes — topic by topic, each with the time it was taught, in English, Hindi or Telugu.
  • Your recording — play it from any point; the scrubber shows where each topic and board photo is.
  • The full study kit — flashcards, quiz, audio, mind map, study guide and a notebook, as for any item in My Library.
  • Once the class is matched to a chapter, the title changes to what it taught (“Quadratic Equations · Tue 29 Sep”).

Homework and test dates

When your teacher says “do exercise 4.3 by Thursday” or “test on Monday”, it is picked out and turned into a date, counted from the day of the class. “Monday” said on a Monday means the following week. The same goes for exam hints like “this comes every year”.

  • They appear at the top of the class's notes. Tap one to hear the moment it was said.
  • Homework due in the next three days and tests in the next week appear in your plan for today on the dashboard.
  • Every dated homework and test is on your calendar as HOMEWORK DUE or CLASS TEST.
  • The Class Capture page lists everything still due.
Only what was actually said
Nothing is guessed. If the teacher didn't say a day, the homework is listed without a date.

What your teacher has covered

Confirm the chapter each recorded class taught, and the page adds it up over the term: “Mathematics — 7 of 14 chapters.” Each chapter shows how many classes covered it. If you ran the Syllabus check on a class, chapters where learning outcomes were skipped are marked, so you know what to cover yourself.

If something goes wrong

  • The tab closed or the phone died. Every minute that reached us is kept. The class shows as Interrupted — not finished; press Finish it to get the notes.
  • “We couldn't hear any teaching.” The recording had almost no speech — usually the phone was too far from the teacher.
  • The microphone was blocked. Allow it in your browser's site settings (the icon in the address bar), then start again.

Privacy

  • Recordings are private to you.
  • The audio is deleted after 30 days. Your transcript, notes and kit stay.
  • To transcribe and read it, the audio and board photos are sent to our AI provider. For students under 18 this needs a parent's consent for AI help — see Data protection.

Limits and tips

  • Up to 3 hours of recording a day, and 40 board photos per class.
  • Works in Chrome on Android and Safari on iPhone (iOS 14.3 or later).
  • Put the phone on the desk nearest the teacher, screen up. Avoid your pocket or bag.
  • Snap the board before it's wiped — the photo is often clearer than the audio for formulas.
