UPSC CSE Prelims 2026 — 90-Day Crash Course

This is a revision course for candidates who have already been through the General Studies syllabus at least once and now need to clear an elimination round with limited time left. The chapter list is deliberately narrower than the full course. Only the highest-weightage areas are taught — the Indian National Movement, Physical Geography, the Constitutional Framework, Biodiversity and Protected Areas, Government Schemes, Space Technology and National Affairs among them — because in ninety days a candidate cannot both cover everything and revise anything. The strategic fact about Prelims is that its marks do not carry forward. Your Prelims score contributes nothing to your final rank; it decides only whether you sit the Mains. That makes it an exam to clear safely rather than to maximise, and it changes what the final ninety days should be spent on — repetition of high-yield material and mock discipline, not new ground. CSAT is treated as a separate obligation throughout. It is qualifying at 33%, but candidates fail on it every year, and a General Studies score that would have cleared the cutoff is worth nothing when the second paper falls short. If you have not studied the syllabus before, take the full course — a crash course cannot replace a first pass. Eligibility & who can join: • A bachelor's degree from a recognised university, in any discipline. Final-year students may apply and appear for Prelims, subject to producing proof of passing before the Mains stage. • Age and attempt limits vary by category and are governed by the year's official notification — the General category limit is commonly 21–32 years with 6 attempts, with relaxations for OBC, SC/ST and PwBD candidates. • The course assumes no prior civil-services coaching and no specific graduation subject — it builds every GS area from foundations. How the course is structured: Teaching runs in descending order of weightage, so the areas that generate the most questions are seen first and most often. Current Affairs runs as a continuous daily track alongside the static revision rather than as a separate block, since the two are heavily interlinked in modern Prelims papers. CSAT is scheduled as a fixed weekly commitment from week one — it is qualifying, but only for those who actually qualify it. Full-length Prelims mocks run twice weekly under real 2-hour timing, each followed by an elimination-technique review: which questions were guessable from partial knowledge, which should have been left, and where the −0.66 penalty was worth taking.
