UGC NET 2026 (Commerce) — Complete Paper 1 & Paper 2 Course

The University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test, conducted by the NTA, determines eligibility for Assistant Professor posts in Indian universities and colleges, for the award of Junior Research Fellowship, and — since the 2024 reforms — for admission to PhD programmes. A single examination now serves all three purposes, with the category you qualify for depending on your score. The exam is a single three-hour computer-based session covering both papers back to back, with no break and no sectional time lock — you may move freely between Paper 1 and Paper 2 and spend the 180 minutes as you judge best. Paper 1, the General Paper on Teaching & Research Aptitude, is compulsory for every candidate regardless of subject: 50 questions for 100 marks. Paper 2 is subject-specific: 100 questions for 200 marks. This course prepares Commerce, one of the highest-volume Paper 2 subjects. The marking scheme is unusually forgiving and it should change how you sit the paper. Every correct answer earns +2 and there is no negative marking whatsoever — a wrong answer and a blank both score zero. This has been the policy since the NTA took over the exam and remains current. There is therefore no rational reason to leave a single question unanswered, yet candidates routinely do, out of habit carried over from exams that punish guessing. Eligibility & who can join: • A master's degree or equivalent from a recognised university with at least 55% marks, with relaxation to 50% for SC, ST, OBC-NCL, PwD and other categories as specified. • Candidates pursuing a master's degree or awaiting results may apply provisionally, subject to completing the qualification within the prescribed period. • There is no upper age limit for Assistant Professor eligibility or PhD admission. JRF carries an upper age limit as notified, with relaxations for reserved categories and women candidates. • Since 2024, NET results classify qualified candidates into three categories: JRF plus Assistant Professor plus PhD admission, Assistant Professor plus PhD admission, and PhD admission only. • Always confirm eligibility, subject codes and dates against the official notification at ugcnet.nta.ac.in. How the course is structured: Paper 1 is taught first and revisited throughout, because it is compulsory for every candidate and its ten units are compact, highly predictable and repeat closely across cycles — it is the most efficient 100 marks in the exam. Paper 2 Commerce is then taught unit by unit across its ten units, with Accounting and Auditing, Business Finance, Business Economics, Business Statistics and Research Methods and Income Tax carrying the heaviest weight. Because there is no sectional lock, mocks are always taken as a single 180-minute session so you practise allocating time between the two papers yourself. With no negative marking, every mock is taken with all 150 questions attempted. UGC NET is normally conducted twice a year; always confirm dates and subject availability against the official notification.
