In human beings blood passes through the heart twice in one complete cycle. This is called double circulation. The right side of the heart receives deoxygenated blood and sends it to the lungs?. The left side receives oxygenated blood from the lungs and pumps it to the body. It is necessary because it keeps oxygenated and deoxygenated blood separate and helps in efficient supply of oxygen. The human heart has four chambers, two atria above and two ventricles below, and valves are present between them so that blood flows only in one direction and does not go back.
