One District One Product assigns each district a signature product for support through credit, branding and marketing, so that MSMEs and artisans build scale around local strengths, as with Chanderi weaving.

Question 2

Accepted Answer

Soybean, which is concentrated in the Malwa and Nimar black-soil belt, and chana (gram); the state is also among the top wheat producers.

Question 3

Which industrial cluster in Madhya Pradesh is known for automobiles and components?

Accepted Answer

Pithampur in Dhar district, near Indore, which has also grown special economic zones and pharma units.

Question 4

Explain Aatmanirbhar Madhya Pradesh and the 2047 vision document.

Accepted Answer

Aatmanirbhar Madhya Pradesh is a mission-mode roadmap announced in 2020 for self-reliance in agriculture, industry, services and social sectors. The Viksit Madhya Pradesh @2047 vision document, unveiled on the state's 70th foundation day on 1 November 2025, sets out long-term goals with an aspiration of a roughly USD 2 trillion economy. Both frame state policy, though achievement depends on implementation, private investment and fiscal space.

Question 5

What was the Bhavantar Bhugtan Yojana, and how did it differ from MSP procurement?

Accepted Answer

Launched in 2017, Bhavantar Bhugtan Yojana was a price-deficiency payment scheme in which the government paid farmers the difference between the modal market price and the MSP, instead of buying the crop. It aimed to support prices without the storage and procurement burden, though its effectiveness depended on accurate price discovery and registration.

Question 6

Describe the industrial clusters of Madhya Pradesh.

Accepted Answer

Pithampur and Indore are known for automobiles, pharma and IT. Mandideep and Bhopal host engineering and BHEL. Satna, Katni and Maihar form a cement belt on limestone. Singrauli is a coal and thermal power centre. Jabalpur has defence manufacturing, Dewas has the bank note press and Narmadapuram has the security paper mill. Neemuch is known for opium alkaloids and agro-processing.

Question 7

Write a note on the District Mineral Foundation and its relevance to Madhya Pradesh.

Accepted Answer

District Mineral Foundations were created under the 2015 amendment to the mining law to fund development in areas affected by mining, financed by contributions from lease-holders. In mining districts such as Singrauli, they are meant to fund health, education, water and livelihoods for affected communities. Their impact depends on transparent use and participation of local Gram Sabhas.

Question 8

"Madhya Pradesh has grown quickly, but its per capita income and human development indicators still lag." Examine. (~200 words)

Accepted Answer

MP's GSDP is estimated at about ₹16.7 lakh crore for 2025-26, with real growth near 8 per cent, and per capita income has risen from ₹38,497 in 2011-12 to about ₹1.69 lakh, yet it remains below the all-India average. The lag arises from a low starting base, heavy dependence on agriculture, uneven industrial development and a large tribal and rural population with low literacy and health outcomes. Growth has been driven by irrigation expansion, high farm output and infrastructure, but industry and services are concentrated in Indore, Bhopal and a few clusters. Human development indicators, especially maternal and infant health and tribal education, have improved from a low base but still trail better-performing states. Closing the gap needs industrial dispersal through MSME and ODOP, water security in regions like Bundelkhand and sustained investment in health, education and skills.

Question 9

Discuss the state's policies for managing forests, water and minerals and the tensions among them. (~200 words)

Accepted Answer

Forests are managed through Joint Forest Management (1991), a state-run tendu-leaf system with bonus sharing and the community rights of the Forest Rights Act. Water policy combines large dams and irrigation projects with small-scale watershed and farm-pond schemes such as Balram Talab and groundwater recharge, and inter-basin links such as Ken-Betwa. Minerals are leased through auctions, with District Mineral Foundations funding local development. Tensions arise because mining and dams often overlap with forests and tribal habitations, because irrigation projects displace communities, and because protected areas restrict livelihoods. Ken-Betwa, for example, promises water to Bundelkhand but affects part of Panna Tiger Reserve. A balanced policy links revenue from minerals and dams to local development, applies consent and rehabilitation norms and maintains ecological safeguards.
