1Analogy — Semantic, Number & FiguralThe highest-frequency reasoning pattern in SSC CGL — 3–4 questions in Tier 1, 3–5 in Tier 2, across word, letter, number and figure analogies. Every question is "find the relationship, apply it once" — this chapter catalogues the relationship families SSC draws from, so recognition becomes reflex.⏱ 20 min read

2Classification (Odd One Out)2–3 questions per tier — spot the one item that doesn't share the hidden rule the other three obey. The skill is finding the rule fast: category for words, divisibility/primes/powers for numbers, and position gaps for letters. The trap is stopping at the first rule when a stricter one is intended.⏱ 15 min read

3Series — Number, Alphabet & Figural3–4 questions per Tier 1 paper and 4–5 in Tier 2 — missing terms and wrong terms in number, letter and mixed series. There are only eight generator patterns SSC uses; learn to test them in cost order and a series question becomes a 25-second scan.⏱ 20 min read

4Coding–Decoding2–4 questions per Tier 1 paper — words and numbers encrypted by letter shifts, reversals, positional values or substitution. SSC uses six cipher families; identify the family from the given pair in ten seconds and the answer is mechanical.⏱ 18 min read

5Blood Relations1–2 questions in each tier — pointing-to-a-photograph riddles, coded relations and small family trees. One drawing convention (squares, circles, generation rows) plus the backwards-parsing rule turns every tangled sentence into a 40-second diagram.⏱ 16 min read

6Direction and Distance1–2 questions per tier — walks with turns, shadows, and shortest distances. The entire topic is one discipline: plot every move on a small compass-grid sketch, then read the answer off the drawing. Pythagoras finishes the job.⏱ 15 min read

7Order and Ranking1–2 quick marks per tier from three tiny formulas — total = left + right − 1, people between = difference − 1, and rank-from-bottom = total − rank-from-top + 1. The only real error is the off-by-one, which the "−1 because the person is counted twice" rule fixes every time.⏱ 12 min read

8Syllogism1–2 questions in Tier 1 and 2–4 in Tier 2 — statements assumed true, conclusions to validate. The Venn-diagram method decides every case: draw the minimal diagram, test each conclusion against it, and remember that "some" never implies "all" and true statements can be absurd.⏱ 18 min read

9Venn Diagrams2–3 questions per tier of two kinds — pick the diagram that models a relationship between classes, and read numbers off a filled diagram. The first needs the subset/overlap/disjoint vocabulary; the second is inclusion–exclusion. Both reward a quick real-world sanity check: can one thing be two of these at once?⏱ 15 min read

10Mathematical Operations1–2 questions per tier where symbols are swapped for arithmetic signs and you compute under BODMAS, or where you pick the sign interchange that balances an equation. The whole skill is: substitute exactly as told, then obey the order of operations — never the visual sign on the page.⏱ 13 min read

11Matrix and Word Formation1–2 questions per tier of two kinds — decode a word from two coordinate grids (each letter has a row-column code, and appears in both matrices so it has two codes), and word formation (which word can or cannot be built from a given set of letters). Both are careful-counting tasks, not reasoning leaps.⏱ 14 min read

12Seating Arrangement and Puzzles1–2 questions per tier (more in Tier 2) — arrange people in rows or circles, or slot them into floors/days from a set of clues. The method never changes: start from the most definite clue, draw the frame, and remember the one fact that trips everyone up — facing the centre flips left and right.⏱ 16 min read

13Statement and Conclusions1–2 questions per tier — decide which conclusion, assumption or course of action follows from a statement, using only what's written. The discipline is the same throughout: no outside knowledge, no extreme claims, and for assumptions, the negation test. What's merely likely in the real world still may not "follow".⏱ 15 min read

14Non-Verbal Reasoning — Mirror, Paper Folding, Dice & FiguresThe visual cluster — mirror/water images, paper folding & cutting, embedded figures, figure series, counting figures, and dice/cubes — supplies 3–5 questions in every Tier 1 paper. Each sub-type has a fixed mechanical rule; none needs artistic talent.⏱ 22 min read
