How toppers play this section
Accounting is the paper where preparation converts most directly into marks, because ICAI marks the working and not only the answer. A balance sheet that does not tally still earns the entries that were right, provided the working notes are there to be read — which means the single highest-return habit at this level is showing every computation as a numbered note rather than doing it in the margin. Build the subject in the order the syllabus is written: the theoretical framework defines the words every later chapter uses, and the accounting process is the machinery everything else runs on, so rectification of errors and the trial balance must be automatic before the specialised chapters are attempted. The heavy marks sit late — partnership accounts and company accounts together account for a large share of the paper, and both are format-driven, which makes them learnable by drilling formats rather than by understanding alone. Attempt the chapter you are surest of first: examiners mark what is on the page, and an unfinished last question costs less than a panicked first one.
