Types of plants
Tree → big, tall, thick woody stem (trunk), branches high up. Shrub → medium height, bushy, many woody stems from base. Herb → small, soft green stem. Climber → weak stem, climbs with support. Creeper → weak stem, spreads on ground.
Mango, neem = trees. Hibiscus, rose = shrubs. Coriander, mint, tulsi = herbs. Money plant = climber. Pumpkin, watermelon = creepers.
Parts of a plant and their functions
Root → absorbs water from soil. Stem → supports the plant, carries water upward. Leaf → makes food (photosynthesis). Flower → becomes fruit. Fruit → contains seeds. Seed → grows into a new plant.
Not all plants have flowers. Ferns and mosses reproduce through spores, not seeds.
Uses of plants
Food → rice, wheat, vegetables, fruits, pulses. Wood → furniture, doors. Medicine → tulsi, neem, aloe vera, turmeric. Other → oxygen, shade, paper, cotton clothes, rubber.
