3. Sewage Treatment — Cleaning the Water
Sewage Treatment Plant (STP): A facility that TREATS wastewater to remove contaminants before releasing it back into the environment.
Stages of Sewage Treatment
Stage 1: Primary Treatment (Physical)
'Step 1: Wastewater passes through BAR SCREENS that remove large objects (sticks, rags, plastic, cans).'

What Happens to the Sludge?
Sludge (the solid material removed during treatment) is processed:
- Sent to a digester tank — anaerobic bacteria break it down further.
- Releases BIOGAS (methane) — used as a FUEL source.
- Remaining solids can be used as FERTILISER (after proper treatment).
