4. Igneous Rocks — 'Fire-Born'

Formation

'Igneous' comes from the Latin word 'IGNIS' meaning FIRE. These rocks form when magma or lava COOLS and SOLIDIFIES.

AP Example: Basalt in Rayalaseema

The Deccan Traps (basalt rock) EXTEND into parts of AP (Rayalaseema). 'Basalt is DARK, heavy, and forms when lava COOLS quickly.' This rock makes the soil RICH in minerals — good for cotton cultivation in parts of AP.

Pumice is the LIGHTEST rock — it FLOATS on water (full of gas bubbles).


5. Sedimentary Rocks — 'Water-Born'

Formation

'Metamorphic' means 'CHANGE OF FORM.' When existing rocks are subjected to HIGH HEAT and PRESSURE inside the Earth, they TRANSFORM.

'Marble is LIMESTONE that has been BAKED and PRESSURED into something BEAUTIFUL.' Used in the Taj Mahal (white marble from Makrana, Rajasthan). Marble is also found in some parts of AP.
