OVERCOMING: The turning point came when his mother showed him a newspaper article about a severely disabled man who had found purpose and happiness by helping others. This article gave Nick a new perspective: he realized he could also help others despite his limitations. He changed his ATTITUDE — from 'why me?' to 'how can I help?' He learned to write with his toes, use a computer, play sports, swim, and play music. He founded 'Life Without Limbs' and began speaking publicly about his life. His attitude — positive and determined — transformed his disability into his greatest strength.
