Nasruddin's Aim

'I am the best archer in the land!' said Nasruddin. But can he really hit the target?

1. About the Story

Theme: Humility, practice, actions vs words

This is a FUNNY folk tale about Mulla Nasruddin, a well-known character in Indian and Middle Eastern folklore. Nasruddin BOASTS about his archery skills. But when he actually tries to shoot, nothing goes as planned!

2. The Story

Nasruddin's Boast

Mulla Nasruddin stands in the marketplace with his bow and arrow. He tells everyone, 'I am the BEST archer in the world! Watch me hit that target.'

The First Shot

A crowd gathers. Nasruddin aims carefully. He pulls the bowstring back. TWANG! The arrow flies — and misses the target completely! It lands FAR away in a bush.

Quick Thinking

The crowd laughs. But Nasruddin says quickly, 'That was NOT my shot. I was just WARMING UP.' He picks up another arrow.

The Second Shot

Nasruddin aims again, even more carefully. He pulls the bowstring back with all his might. FWOOOSH! The arrow flies — and hits a tree far to the left. The crowd laughs even LOUDER.

Even Quicker Thinking

Nasruddin does not give up. 'That was to SHOW you what happens when you hold the bow wrong,' he says. 'Now let me show you a REAL shot.'

The Third Shot

But before he can shoot again, someone from the crowd says, 'Nasruddin, why don't you just admit that you CANNOT shoot well?' Nasruddin looks embarrassed. The crowd laughts. But Nasruddin just smiles and says, 'At least I know how to MAKE people laugh!'
