The Yellow Butterfly

About the Story

What it is about: A little boy named SONU sees a BEAUTIFUL YELLOW BUTTERFLY in his garden. He tries to CATCH it, but the butterfly leads him on a CHASE. In the end, Sonu learns something important about FREEDOM.

The Story

SONU was playing in his garden. It was a SUNNY day. The flowers were BLOOMING.

Suddenly, Sonu saw something — a BEAUTIFUL, YELLOW BUTTERFLY!

'Wow!' said Sonu. 'I want to CATCH it!'

The butterfly flew to a ROSE BUSH. Sonu crept closer, very QUIETLY. But just as he reached out — the butterfly flew away.

The butterfly landed on a MARIGOLD. Sonu TIPTOED closer. Closer... closer... But again, the butterfly flew away.

The butterfly then landed on a SUNFLOWER. Sonu was DETERMINED. He crept very, very slowly. His hand was almost there...

But this time, the butterfly flew into a SPIDER'S WEB! It was TRAPPED!

Sonu forgot about CATCHING the butterfly. Now he wanted to SAVE it! The spider was COMING closer.

Gently, Sonu pulled the butterfly from the web. The butterfly was FREE!

It fluttered its yellow wings and flew up into the BLUE sky.

Sonu watched it go. He felt HAPPY. The butterfly was BEAUTIFUL in the sky — FREE and HAPPY.

'Some things are more beautiful when they are FREE,' Sonu thought.

The Change in Sonu

At the BEGINNING:

  • Sonu wants to CATCH the butterfly
  • Sonu wants to OWN it

At the END:

  • Sonu wants to SAVE the butterfly
  • Sonu is happy to WATCH it fly free

Sonu has LEARNED an important lesson!

What We Can Learn

1. Things Are Beautiful When They Are Free

A butterfly in a JAR is not as beautiful as a butterfly flying in the SKY. Nature should be FREE.

2. Saving is Better Than Catching

Sonu's MOMENT of greatest happiness was when he SAVED the butterfly, not when he tried to CATCH it.

3. Kindness Matters

Sonu showed KINDNESS by freeing the butterfly from the spider's web. Kindness to animals is IMPORTANT.

4. Respect Wildlife

We should OBSERVE butterflies and other creatures, but not CATCH them or keep them in captivity.
