My Silly Sister

About the Story

What it is about: An OLDER SIBLING talks about his/her LITTLE SISTER. The sister does 'silly' things — but the story shows us that these 'silly' things are really the sister LEARNING and EXPLORING the world. The bond between siblings is LOVING and AFFECTIONATE.

The Story

My little sister is SO SILLY! You would not BELIEVE the things she does.

Yesterday, she tried to WEAR her shoes on the WRONG feet! 'Silly!' I said. 'Your shoes go on the RIGHT feet.'

'But they are MY feet,' she said. 'I like them this way.'

Another time, she POURED her milk into a SOUP bowl. 'Silly!' I said. 'Milk goes in a CUP.'

'But I like drinking from a BIG bowl,' she said.

She once DREW a picture of a COW with purple and GREEN stripes. 'Silly!' I said. 'Cows are not purple!'

'My cow is a RAINBOW cow,' she said. 'It is a SPECIAL cow.'

She asks so many QUESTIONS!

  • 'Why does the SUN follow us when we walk?'
  • 'Where does the MOON go during the day?'
  • 'Do FISH get thirsty?'
  • 'Can BUTTERFLIES hear us?'

I used to LAUGH at her. But then I REALISED something. She is NOT being silly. She is being CURIOUS. She is seeing the world in her OWN, SPECIAL way.

Now, when she does something 'silly,' I do not laugh. I JOIN her. We wear our shoes 'wrong' together. We draw rainbow cows. We wonder about the moon and the fish.

And you know what? The world is MUCH more FUN when you see it through HER eyes. My silly sister is NOT so silly after all. She is WONDERFUL.
