He Is My Brother
About the Story
What it is about: A young girl named MEENA carries her YOUNGER BROTHER up a steep hill to a TEMPLE. People ask her why she does not let him walk. She says, 'HE IS MY BROTHER.' The story is about SIBLING LOVE, CARING, and DETERMINATION.
The Story
On a sunny morning, MEENA and her little brother went to visit a TEMPLE on top of a HILL.
The hill was STEEP. The path was LONG. Meena's little brother was TIRED.
'Bhaiya, I cannot walk anymore,' he said.
Meena looked at her brother. His legs were SHAKING. He was SWEATING. The temple was still FAR away.
'Come,' said Meena. 'I will CARRY you.'
She lifted her brother onto her BACK. He was HEAVY. The sun was HOT. But Meena kept WALKING.
An OLD MAN passed by. 'Girl, why are you carrying that boy?' he asked. 'He has LEGS. Let him WALK.'
'He is MY BROTHER,' said Meena. 'He is tired.'
A WOMAN selling flowers saw them. 'You are so SMALL,' she said. 'He is too HEAVY for you. Put him DOWN.'
'He is MY BROTHER,' said Meena. 'I will carry him.'
Another MAN said, 'You must be VERY strong to carry him all this way.'
Meena smiled. 'I am not strong,' she said. 'But he is MY BROTHER. I LOVE him. When you LOVE someone, you find the STRENGTH.'
Finally, they reached the temple. Meena put her brother down. They RANG the temple bell together. They said a PRAYER.
'Thank you, Bhaiya,' said the little brother.
Meena hugged him. 'You are MY BROTHER,' she said. 'I will ALWAYS be there for you.'
