About CTET / State TET
CTET is the eligibility test for teaching posts in Central Government schools — Kendriya Vidyalayas, Navodaya Vidyalayas and others — and is accepted by many state and private schools as a qualification benchmark.
There are two papers. Paper I qualifies a candidate to teach Classes I–V, and Paper II qualifies for Classes VI–VIII. A candidate intending to teach across both levels may sit both papers.
Each paper carries 150 questions for 150 marks in 150 minutes. Crucially, there is no negative marking at all, which makes CTET's attempt strategy fundamentally different from almost every other competitive examination in India.
What a good score unlocks
- A CTET certificate is an eligibility qualification, not an appointment. It makes you eligible to apply for teaching posts; recruitment happens separately through KVS, NVS and state or school-level processes.
- The CTET certificate is now valid for life, following the removal of the earlier seven-year validity limit.
