About IBPS PO

IBPS PO is the annual Common Recruitment Process through which the Institute of Banking Personnel Selection hires Probationary Officers and Management Trainees for the public-sector banks that participate in the CRP. A single application and merit list feeds officer-cadre vacancies across these banks, making it the widest single doorway into a scale-I banking officer's career in India.

Selection runs in three stages — a qualifying Preliminary examination, a Main examination that actually counts toward the final merit, and an Interview. The Prelims is a fast, sectionally-timed screen of aptitude and language; the Mains adds General/Economy/Banking Awareness, Data Analysis & Interpretation and a Descriptive English paper that together test the depth a branch officer needs.

Because the Prelims gives you just twenty minutes per section, the exam rewards accuracy at speed far more than exhaustive knowledge. Strong candidates clear the easy marks (simplification, syllogism, reading comprehension) quickly and reliably, then spend their remaining time on the high-value puzzle and data-interpretation sets that decide the sectional cutoffs.
