Delhi Public School (DPS) Mathura Road, established in 1949, is the first institution under the Delhi Public School Society. Located on Mathura Road in New Delhi, the school has grown from modest beginnings to become a premier co-educational day and boarding school. The foundation stone of the current building was laid in 1956 by Dr. S.
Radhakrishnan, the then Vice President of India. Over the decades, DPS Mathura Road has been dedicated to providing holistic education, fostering qualities such as integrity, honesty, trust, tolerance, and compassion among its students. The school aims to promote a spirit of inquiry, foster a scientific temper within the bonds of humanism, and help students become meaningful contributors to society. The institution offers courses in Humanities, Commerce, and Science, preparing students for the All India Senior School Certificate Examination conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).
The academic curriculum is complemented by a wide range of co-curricular activities, including sports, arts, and cultural programs, ensuring the all-round development of students. The school boasts a dedicated teaching staff with a wide range of skills and interests, providing a varied choice of activities—academic, aesthetic, and athletic. The environment is enriched with the excitement of discovery, challenge, and competitiveness, and discipline is based on the belief that responsibility comes before freedom.
The school has produced luminaries such as Vinod Khanna, Kabir Bedi, Shriya Saran, Montek Singh Ahluwalia, and Salman Khurshid, among others. The sprawling campus, spread over approximately 15 acres of lush, green lawns, houses state-of-the-art facilities, including workshops, laboratories, computer centers, audio-visual lecture rooms, libraries, swimming pools, squash courts, a clinic, a bookshop, hostel, and a canteen.
The school functions under a registered society with eminent educationists, social workers, and medical specialists. The current principal is Dr. Ram Singh, and the chairman of the Delhi Public School Society is Shri V.K. Shunglu.
The school is a member of the Indian Public Schools' Conference and maintains close liaison with the cultural departments of various embassies, offering language programs in French, Spanish, Japanese, Chinese, Arabic, German, Russian, and Italian. The institution emphasizes diverse methods of teaching for different categories of students, opportunities for shouldering responsibilities in school life, constant participation in games and sports, and a wide range of cultural and co-curricular activities, lending meaning to school life.
The end product is the harmonious, all-round developed personality of students poised on the threshold of life.
