Vijayanagara Sri Krishnadevaraya University

Vijayanagara Sri Krishnadevaraya University (VSKU) is a public university located in Ballari (Bellary), a city with deep historical ties to the Vijayanagara Empire and geographically close to Anantapur. Established in 2010 by the Government of Karnataka, it was carved out of Gulbarga University to cater to the specific higher education needs of the Ballari and Koppal districts. The university is named after the great emperor Sri Krishnadevaraya, reflecting the rich heritage of the region.

VSKU has its main campus in Ballari and a postgraduate center in Koppal. It offers a wide range of postgraduate courses in Arts, Science, and Commerce and has a growing number of Ph.D. programs. The university is an affiliating institution, with many undergraduate colleges in the region under its academic jurisdiction.

The main campus is developing rapidly, with new academic blocks, a library, hostels, and administrative buildings. VSKU is focused on promoting research relevant to the local context, particularly in areas like mineralogy, history, and Kannada literature.
